My niece Michelle and her husband Jason Webb jetted in from D/FW Friday afternoon (5-1-15) to kick off a 10-day Florida vacation. They changed into beachwear at our condo and we drove straight to Ft. Lauderdale beach. We just had time to hike to the jetty and back from the Sheraton, before viewing the mermaids swimming in the hotel’s pool from The Wreck Bar.

For dinner we drove to Hollywood and ate on the beach. Karen and Michelle joined the band for a parting number.

Saturday we pointed the boat north up the ICW. It was rough out in the Atlantic, so cruising the inside was prudent. You never know what you’ll see along the way, but it’s sure to be entertaining, like this dude in jet boots.

Walking on the water, or flying above it and diving below it, has never been easier.

There was no room at the dock when we got to the restaurant at Lighthouse Point so we headed for Hillsboro Inlet to take some pictures of the lighthouse.

We added to our take-home “rum bucket” total as Jason and Michelle joined Karen for a refreshing rasher in the hefty containers.

Lots of rum and swimming during lunch caused my crew to do some napping on the cruise home.

A long day on the water called for dinner at home Saturday night, but we were up early Sunday Morning to go to Jazz Fest in the park on the New River. Our early departure paid off and we got a prime docking space, as well as, a shady spot to eat lunch and watch the show.

A shady location near the river with a good view is priceless at Jazz Fest.

We arrived two hours before the musicians started playing, so there was time to explore along the banks of the New River. The Briny Pub is always a good spot for a picture.

We did a power walk through the famous Swap Shop before heading to the jetty in John U. Lloyd state park.

Sunday the cruise ships leave Port Everglades. We strolled out on the jetty lining the north side of the inlet to watch the big boats go by before dinner.

Dinner at the Quarter Deck on Dania pier was excellent. Our view included kite surfers and a killer sunset.

Monday Jason and Michelle picked up a rental car and headed for Key West. I assume to get some rest from their visit with us. We expect them back next Friday for more Ft. Lauderdale based fun.
