Since 1962 the city of Rock Hill has invited the world to “Come-See-Me” at their annual, spring festival. We took advantage of a break in recent rains on Saturday (4-6-19) and joined the South Carolina fun.

Persistent precipitation throughout the week muddied the waters that flow through the heart of Glencairn Garden’s 11-acres. The turtles and geese that live in the creek were all about catching some rays.

The Festival had events scattered throughout the city. The actors in Glencairn Gardens were performing excerpts from “The Secret Garden.”

The multitude of blooms were at their early, spring peak.

With Karen and spring flowers for subjects, it was a cinch for me to take beautiful pictures.

All that vibrant foliage even made pictures of me look good.

At Winthrop Lake they had live music, kiddie rides, food vendors, a frog hop competition, a kickball tourney, and a beer-tasting event. We opted to not pay for suds samples from the lackluster showing of beer vendors. However, I met the owner who shared Benford Brewing Company’s “Senior Chief Lager” across the fence with me. The can’s label was designed from the Hawaiian Greetings certificate his grandfather, Grover C. Fewox, received while serving on the first US Navy ship launched after Japan’s attack on Peal Harbor in World War II. Mr. Fewox had a highly-distinguished naval career and the family brews fine beer in his honor.

Leaving Rock Hill we were famished and decided to stroll around Old Town in Matthews, NC to find food. This was our first visit to the quaint village, which is seven miles from home and has lots of cool taverns and shops.

We discovered Beantown Tavern, which was full of friendly people. Karen craved “Lobster Pizza.” It was not on their menu, but the cook agreed to make one special for us and it tasted fantastic. I expect to see “Lobster Pizza” offered on their pie list when we return.

We hope your spring has plenty of fling and you get to enjoy new places and the people that make them unique.
