The McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square in Charlotte, NC was originally the First Baptist Church. The stained glass windows and cool dome set the scene in the 730 seat venue for Jake’s live performance.

Karen and I had front row balcony seats Monday 9-10-18. Jake blew the crowd away with his mighty, little ukulele.

Jake began playing the ukulele in his native Hawaii when he was four-years-old. He combines jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk flamenco and Hawaiian music to amaze his listeners. With lightning-fast fingers and genuine enthusiasm he can wow a crowd. Jake writes his own music and has completed the entire soundtracks for two Japanese films. My favorite song for the night was George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” George was a huge ukulele fan and always carried two when he traveled because, “Ukuleles are more fun to play with someone else.”

It was a splendid night in uptown Charlotte for a great concert and Jake Shimabukuro did not disappoint. Who knew the ukulele could be so dynamic and versatile? Jake cranked a ton of great music out of just four strings.
