Ms. Britany worked with Karen at Ally in Charlotte, NC. This was her visit to our home in Chattanooga. We gave her a grand tour.

The Greeter Falls trail is all downhill, covered with jumbled rocks and overshadowed by looming overhangs. It’s a short and challenging hike.

A convenient spiral staircase makes the descent down the sheer cliff into Greeter Falls cove a breeze.

This boulder strewn section of the falls’ drainage would normally be a raging creek.

After three-weeks with no rain, Greeter Falls was just a trickle. The pool at the base of the falls was still deep enough for this hiker to swim across.

Just up the road from Greeter Falls is our second hike to Stone Door.

We stopped for pictures at the Savage Gulf overlook and to admire the blush of fall colors.

The cliff face at the Savage Gulf Overlook drops 100-feet onto a rocky ledge. This couple told us they were “cavers” before rappelling off the precipice. That’s the fast-way down.

We preferred to descend gradually into Savage Gulf via the Great Stone Door. This split in the sheer face of the escarpment was used by pioneers and is still utilized by animals to enter the valley.

The rock steps in the Stone Door’s gap are steep, uneven and vary in size and shape. Karen chose to stay at the top and watch Britany and me make the hike down and back. This two-trail hiking day was excellent exposure to Tennessee’s beautiful outdoors for our first-time visitor.
